Do not miss Fort Worden State Park, just a mile and a half north of downtown. It was built as an Army Fort in 1902. Nice curved sandy beach with a lighthouse at the end. Take a walk through one of the many old concrete bunkers. Learn about the sea life at the Marine Science Center. Enjoy camping, hiking or biking on the many trails through out the park. Most people remember the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman, much of it was filmed at Fort Worden. For the movie the Fort was turned into a Navy Base.
Our downtown offers great shopping and dining. Take a walk on one of the piers out over Port Townsend Bay. Watch the ferry, boats and sea life right from the beach. Visit the Northwest Maritime Center, you will find a working boat shop and many educational opportunities, stop by and pet the otters in the courtyard.
